Ishmael, Chapter 2 by Paige Schmittlein and Anthony Jannetti
1. Takers are the people of the culture that we live in currently, and Leavers are every other culture that the narrator sees as uncivilized. Leavers live in symbyosis with the environment whereas Takers are at war with it.
2. Takers propogate the "Mother Culture" which teaches youth that society is how it should be. It is easy for us to pass on what we believe to understand, but if you shed illusions and perceive the reality, things could be much different.
3. -Story: "is a scenario interrelating man, the world, and the gods."
-Enact: "is to live so as to make the story a reality."
-Culture: "is a people enacting a story."
Often times, the way our minds interpret the world around us is not on key with reality. We romanticize people to be characters that they're not, and our environment to be of service to us, when we should be of service to our environment.
4. Our culture has a creation myth like any other, but we percieve it in a way that stresses our importance and makes other organisms seem like supporting characters. If we stopped believing what we've been told, that is the first step to dissillusion.
