Ishmael, Chapter 1 by Megan Tighe and Cory Sweitzer


1. Narrator is the only character
            -We are introduced to the narrator through his desire to meet the teacher that wishes to save the world. He wants to save the world because he questions the motive of man.

2. Newspaper Ad, ‘Teacher seeking Pupil’.
            - ‘Teacher seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person.’ This is the ad that the narrator comes across unknown by him that the teacher is actually not a human being, but a gorilla.

3. Making learning not a selfish thing.
            -He was looking for an experience that he had never received before. All other learning is centered on benefiting the sole student. He wanted his efforts to benefit the greater good of humanity.

4. The new era
            -The narrator is disappointed by the way people learn today. He introduces the idea of an educational revolution that is not centered on the individual, but more on world.
